What’s planned?

The hot and sticky days of summer are definitely here! However this is the perfect weather for getting a great tan and enjoying the pool. On weekends you will see most folks enjoying conversation and drinks while floating in the pool’s perfect water temperature.

Traditionally on the 4th of July we have our fireworks display. Unfortunately due to the difficult economic times we will be utilizing those funds in other much needed areas.

The July potluck held on Sunday the 13th, at 2pm, will be our patriot potluck with drinks and entertainment. Bring a dish to share and join us for a great day in the sun.

Celebrate Nude Recreation Week: July 7-12. If you introduce a friend to nude recreation at Edun Lake during this week you will receive free grounds fees for both you and your friend. What a way to support AANR and introduce a new freedom to your friends.
Free temporary tattoos provided by AANR are available during July. (I’m in a Nakation state of mind)

A double birthday celebration for Bill B. and Will H. is planned for Saturday, July 26th. Everyone is invited just bring a dish to share for dinner, which will be at 6:00pm, and your own drinks.
They have hired a DJ and are getting ready to party!!!

Beginning in June Edun Lake will be closed on Mondays for the summer. This does not affect our annual members or our associate members, only those who are day visitors not associated with Edun Lake. Closing on Mondays will permit us the opportunity to do work and maintenance which might interfere with your visit, run errands and make personal appointments. We will be open on any holiday which happens to fall on a Monday during the summer.

Highlights in August: Potluck Sunday, August 10th.

What kind of fun did we have?

There may have been a few raindrops at the June potluck but that wasn’t any reason to keep the party from going on. Once the afternoon shower past a lively group kept dancing and enjoying the music until 7pm.. Yes our DJ Jan was having so much fun he stayed a couple hours longer. Let’s get out there and dance and maybe he will stay a bit longer this potluck.

What's new?

Jeff C. has been refurbishing the corn hole boards which will proudly be placed on the new concrete slabs. He has also made a new exit sign. Check it out – it is quite a work of art and most helpful.

What was worked on?

This summer with the normal afternoon rains we have been able to do a bit of landscaping. Much of it is trimming and removal but a few new trees and plants have been planted to help spruce up the grounds. The RV area is getting a new look with lots of fill and mulch.

What's changing?

We will no longer be able to offer water and soda for sale in the pavilion refrigerator. You are welcome to bring your own drinks and place them in the refrigerator or bring a cooler.
If you happen to stay longer than your beverages last we may have something for sale—
Please ask for assistance.

There is an increase in the AANR annual dues. In the past Edun Lake has only charged the barest fees allowed by AANR. Now, while trying to keep above the rising costs which affect us all, we have had to increase the fee. The national organization (AANR) is expected to increase their dues by five dollars per person later this summer at the annual convention. Taking that into consideration we increased the fee to accommodate their proposed increase. In addition we will be sending renewal reminders by way of email for both AANR and Edun Lake whenever possible. Hopefully we have your correct email address, however if you should make a change please send a notice of your new email.

A One year membership dues for AANR through Edun Lake is:

Single: $48.00      Couple/Family: $73.00

This is still a savings of over 25-30% over joining AANR direct.

Another change on the way is the elimination of the P.O. Box. Several reasons, but the main one is we rarely go in that direction for anything and then most of the mail has been junk mail. So if you have the address for Edun Lake as the PO Box it will not longer be of any use. In this age of email ninety percent of our communication is that way. As we don’t publish our physical address, for privacy reasons please continue to send your correspondence to edunlake@aol.com or phone 239-354-6717.

What is your favorite recipe?

I know there are a few out there that haven’t sent in a recipe for the cookbook and some of yours have been requested at our potlucks. So please email one or drop one off to share in our cookbook. Lee Ann… Lou is waiting for your jalapeño stuffed pepper recipe.
Categories are: appetizers, salads, entrees, and desserts. Email to edunlake@aol.com ; drop them off at the club. Send them soon so we can get started on sharing these wonderful recipes.

Remembering our Friends

Many of our members take off in all directions for the summer and frequently I am asked where they are or how they are doing. So here is a bit of news I have as to their whereabouts:
Norm and Joan D. spent the second half of May in St. Martin then headed north to Maryland. From there they went to Holland to visit their grandchildren, son and daughter in law. Before they head back they will stop off in France for a visit to enjoy a bit of wine and good food. Usually they return to Naples in September.
Bill L. headed back to New York in early April to begin working on his cabin in the woods. As most know he is one handy man with a hammer and has constructed the most unique cabin and landscaping. He has sent some pictures of his progress so far which we have at the club.
James G. has gone to spend the summer in Pennsylvania in his new camper. He will visit family along the way. James too will return in September.
If you would like to send us an update on your summer travels please do.. we would love to share them with your friends at Edun Lake.

Helpful laundry tip: Reuse an old plastic spray bottle, fill with hydrogen peroxide and spray any blood stains before putting in the washer. This works on most any fabric even carpet.

Here is a special offer from one of our members. I have been given a $50.00 Sears gift card for the sole purchase of a new Sears range. If anyone is considering purchasing a new range from Sears and could use this $50.00 gift card please contact me.

What's new in the Lotto Club?  $$

The session from May to November 2008 has begun and this time it is for 6 months (52 draws). There are 40 participants this time. Wish us luck and join us next time. So far this session our biggest winning has been a ticket with 4 numbers.

INFO and FAQ

*Typically we do all the power washing and heavy cleaning on Mondays and that will stay the same with the exception of not as often. Southwest Florida is experiencing such drought conditions that we will hold off on using large amounts of water until absolutely necessary.
Please overlook a little dirt on the deck this winter until Mother Nature blesses us with some drenching rain.

*With such a dry “rainy season” the water table is at our low winter level already. This means we need to conserve water as much as possible. So please make your showers quick and do not leave the water running unnecessarily.

*To help keep the deck clean when practicing your golf swing or playing a yard game please use the foot washes provided.

*It has been said many clubs post a sign stating that lounge chairs are for people not towels. With that in mind please be considerate of others on those busy weekends and don’t save a lounge chair if you intend to hang out under that pavilion for an extended period of time.

*The club has two refrigerators for use. The one in the storage room is for annual members only while the one behind the bar in the pavilion is for visitors and Associate members to use. Each refrigerator is cleaned of perishable food items on Mondays.

*With the addition of the storage area we ask that you do not park in the driveway used for this area. There is not enough room to have a car parked and someone trying to get by with a trailer or large truck. Also please keep the driveway to the lake open as the large lot is used for overflow parking.

Q: Do you have a policy about bringing a radio?
A: As with most clubs we ask that you use headphones while around the pool.

Q: Can I use/bring my cell phone?
A: Knowing that a growing number of people have a cell phone as their only phone line we understand the need for keeping in touch. Most people come out to get away and relax from their busy schedules and phones, so having a cell phone constantly ringing can be annoying to the other guests. If it is essential that you keep your cell phone on, while at the club, we only ask that you keep it close at hand so you can answer it quickly. Perhaps while having a conversation you might move out of earshot to give yourself some privacy as well. However picture cell phones are not permitted.

Q: What is your policy on bringing your dog to Edun Lake?
A: We love dogs as much as most people, however we cannot permit them under the pavilion or on the pool deck. We have a shaded area away from the recreation area that they are permitted to be leashed providing they are not a nuisance or of a vicious breed. They must be picked up after.

Q: Is smoking permitted?
A: Since we are completely outdoors smoking is permitted. There are sand buckets to use around the pool and ashtrays for under the pavilion. Being a considerate smoker is always appreciated.

Q: What is your policy about piercing?
A: This seems to be more common than first thought. If it is discreet and would not be considered offensive to most it is allowed.

The office is manned during the hours of 8am to 10am M-F. If you need to call for the gate code or directions this is the best time to reach someone. Otherwise you may reach the answering machine and be asked to leave a message. We will return your call as soon as possible. Please call a day or so in advance for the gate code, if you wait until you are at the gate you may not reach anyone.

We hope you enjoyed this issue of Bare Facts from Edun Lake. Future issues will be emailed to members and posted on the website for your convenience.
